Monk in Darkfall
hi, all

i just bought the pack, i have just a simple question.

is it possible to create a classic monk in darkfall?

as in mostly hand to hand martial art style fighting? no it's not possible, there is no such thing in darkfall

At the moment, no. The devs are bringing in the first iteration of titles before launch - these will be very basic ones but you will already be able to focus your character in certain directions. After launch more complex titles will be added to the game which will add further layers to what your character can be.

But note that there is no hand to hand combat in this game: melee weapons (including maces, hammers etc), bows or magic.

@Ub3rgames how do you intend to educate new people like the OP who come here expecting cookie-cutting classes?

That is sort of the point of armors, titles, and later on, commitment tiers.
To specialize enough that for someone looking for it, they will get to have a character that fits their "fantasy".

For example, we won't have unarmed combat for quite some time, but a "paladin" would be possible.
1h+shield, damage mitigation(scales with armor), combo, spellchanting, anythingelse
That's effectively playing a resilient character that has moderate support abilities to its team. What most people feel is a paladin.

On the other hand, if one would want to commit less, they could just go the old style cookie cutter of multiple magic schools combined with 2h weapon.

Monks mostly were not unarmed combat fighters. Monks used agricultural weapons to defend themselves from bandits, so basically axes, maces, any long sticks or polearms fits into the category. You can have axes that look like scythe or other tools, but going for cosmetics will fail vs high rank geared players.

Also if you would make unarmed combat with fist weapons, their range would be shorter than daggers.. GL.

Players will only 'effectively' be any variety of special snowflake they choose.

What I meant is something more,  to help explain the break-from-the-norm style of character building dnd will have. This lack of comprehension has hurt every darkfall so far.

Well, perk based systems are a staple of pen and paper rpg and their video game ports for decades.
Should be fairly clear to understand that picking a title with a well described set of bonuses and maluses allows to specialize a character.
What do you fear people may not understand?

That's another matter. The question seemed to be more about general build concepts, of how titles work and so on.

Exactly what the OP is asking, the average mmo player does not even understand the concept when researching the game, long before they get a chance to log in and see/work out for themselves
